Julian Lloyd Webber Launches The New Generation Arts Festival

“It is a great privilege to be launching this year’s NGA festival, working alongside emerging classical stars from Birmingham Conservatoire. I fully support the festival’s aim of providing a professional platform for new graduate talent, and channelling the vibrant and diverse artistic energy of Birmingham as a city”. Julian Lloyd Webber

Acclaimed cellist Julian Lloyd Webber launches this year’s New Generation Arts Festival in spectacular style!

One of the most creative musicians of his generation, Julian Lloyd Webber has collaborated with an extraordinary array of musicians from Lorin Maazel, Neville Marriner, Georg Solti to Elton John and Cleo Laine. He has made many outstanding recordings and received one Brit Award for his Elgar Concerto conducted by Yehudi Menuhin.

Kicking off the launch event for the NGA Festival, Julian is set to perform a highly unique new commission by the New Guide To Opera (Michael Wolters and Marcus Dross) which explores the idea of a potential soundtrack to accompany the BBC News headlines. Alongside students from the Birmingham Conservatoire, Julian will perform original music performed to an actual live broadcast of the BBC 7 O’clock News.

Julian will also perform a new work written specifically for him by the acclaimed composer and TV presenter Howard Goodall. Integra then takes centre stage in the second half featuring five leading contemporary music ensembles in an exciting programme of new works and existing repertoire with live electronics, with a special focus on mixed media performances. Alongside the festival, an international conference, “Solving the tensions between musicians and technology”, will take place at Birmingham Conservatoire. Both events are part of Integra, a 3-year EU-funded project led by Birmingham Conservatoire that brings together music ensembles and research centres to promote live electronic music and develop new tools to compose and perform with technology.
